The
Indiana Youth Development (IYD) Credential
Indiana
children need safe, caring places to go during their out-of-school hours. As this
need grows, there will be an increase in the need for qualified, well-trained
youth development professionals.
The
IYD Credential provides a competency based process to professionally recognize
an individual's knowledge and skills. A person who earns the IYD Credential has
demonstrated that they have the skills and knowledge to meet the Core Competencies
of the Credential and are able to apply these skills and knowledge in specific
program settings. The IYD Credential provides an opportunity for adults working
with youth to gain professional recognition of job competence.
The
IYD Credential was initially created with the support of many individuals and
organizations throughout Indiana working with the Indiana School Age Consortium
(ISAC). In January 2007, ISAC became the Indiana YouthPRO Association (YouthPRO).
YouthPRO administers the IYD Credential as a statewide effort to improve the quality
of youth professional skills and abilities. Indiana is the eleventh state to develop
this type of credentialing process and is the only state to combine competencies
that recognize skills in both youth development and child care professions. YouthPRO
is an affiliate of the National After-School Association. YouthPRO works with
higher education institutions such as the Ivy Tech Community Colleges throughout
the state and with T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood© INDIANA.
